About Our School

Blackbox Academy is a performance academy with a twist – with a focus on personal growth, our education is designed to challenge students to be the best they can be both in their craft, and in their lives. The skills we develop as performers change the way we think, feel and experience the world around us, naturally leading to an evolution of character.

Specializing in storytelling, improvisation, character creation, status, sketch comedy, scene analysis, film & theatre acting and more, there’s something for everyone.

Adult Film & Theatre Classes

Improv Theatre Drop-In

Tuesdays 6:00-8:00pm

$20 (First Class is FREE)

This is a topic based improvisation class for all skill levels! That means you don’t need to be there every week to enjoy the experience.

Improvisation – Level 1

Next Start Date: March 13th (Only a few spots left)

In this class students will master all the basics of improv over the length of the course.

The class ends with a performance for a live audience.

Story class

Anatomy of a Story

Students will explore the key elements to what makes a great story. We will examine culturally relevant stories across the different mediums in order to see the commonalities.

Scene Study

Students will focus on scene analysis, character development and delve deep into selected scripts, studying the ins and outs of the scenes and the characters.

Audition

Students will learn all about the art of auditioning. This class will provide tools and tips to succeed in any audition room, whether for film or theatre. 

How to Register

Registering for theatre classes in Saskatoon at Blackbox Academy is simple!

2. Pay the Deposit

Pay the $50 non-refundable deposit, or full class/month payment to secure your spot in class. This is applied towards your class payment.

  • Etransfer to blackboxacad@gmail.com (Auto-deposit)
  • Send proof of funds (Photo of the etransfer)

What Should I Do Now?

Complete the rest of your class payments before the first day of class.

3. Finish Your Payment Before the First Class

Payments can be made for the full class amount, or monthly. If you choose to pay by monthly instalments, payment must be received before the first class of that month.

When Are Classes Scheduled?

We offer classes throughout the year, with sessions typically running for 12 weeks.

Summer Camps will be running in July-August, with more information coming soon

When Will The Class I Registered For Start?

Classes are by wait list until the student minimum (8) is reached.

Once the class minimum is reached we check in with students/parents to select the most optimal day of the week or weekend for the class.

Why Do You Schedule Like This?

This scheduling method helps keep students grouped together, learning together at a similar pace as much as possible.

This scheduling method also improves connection, retention, and excitement within the group, about each lesson.
