The brief

A working actor’s toolkit for the screen.

Built for adults who want real, on-camera skill and a consistent place to train it. You’ll study scenes, drill audition technique, and put in the reps in front of the lens in a supportive room, guided step by step toward a final performance on the last day of class.

The shoot list

Three skills, take by take.

Over ten weeks you’ll master the audition, ground yourself in the craft, and learn to perform for the camera.

Scene 01 · Fundamentals

Acting Fundamentals

Build a solid foundation as an actor: presence, listening, truthful reactions, and the habits that make good, grounded performances.

Scene 02 · Craft

Scene Analysis

Take a scene apart and build it back up: text analysis, character, and emotional preparation.

Scene 03 · On camera

On-Camera Techniques

The technique beneath your favourite performances: eye lines, props, stage directions, and more.

Rolling

Reps in the room, week after week.

Production schedule

Ten weeks, building to the final performance.

Why this class

Train like the real thing.

A structure designed around maximizing your growth as a performer for the screen.

Students are guided through acting and auditioning fundamentals leading to a final performance on the last day. You’ll leave with the tools you need to work as an actor today, and those who are ready get the chance to showcase to agents and casting directors.

Whether you’re brand new or already on your journey, this is a place to sharpen your skills and train with real industry players.

A gym for actors

Talent isn’t a one-off. It’s a practice.

This class is built to be your training gym, a consistent space to return to, rep after rep. Actors don’t get sharp in a single workshop; they get sharp by showing up, working the muscle, and coming back to do it again. Same room, same crew, every week.

Show upA weekly repA standing time to train your craft, so it never goes cold between projects.
Work the muscleReps & feedbackRun scenes on camera, get coached, adjust, and run them again, every session.
Come backStay in shapeConsistency is where real growth happens. Keep returning and stay audition-ready.

I signed up for the Improv Level 1 classes as I wanted to find the fun in life again, relearn how to be playful and spontaneous, and find that banter ability that used to flow naturally before 'life' got its hands on me. This Blackbox Academy class and classmates have been amazing. And the instructors Graham and Kristin are so incredibly welcoming and find the balance of keeping it real while simultaneously making it a safe place. If you're looking for something that bumps you out of your routine, I highly recommend any Blackbox Academy offering. You won't regret it!
