The film industry has gone through a major transition over the last several years with one noteworthy change for actors. We now audition primarily through self-tapes, opening the door to land film & television acting jobs from right here in Saskatoon.
Besides the many personal benefits of taking acting training, our audition for film & television class offers a unique structure designed around maximizing your growth as a performer. Students are guided through a series of acting and auditioning fundamentals leading up to the final class. On the final day of the course, students will film an audition tape that will be sent to Saskatchewan’s top casting director, Brenda McCormick, for feedback.

Our Audition Class is designed to help you achieve your goals as a film & television actor and as an individual. Without a mastery of auditioning, an actors craft is left unseen. Those who desire to work professionally in this industry must first master the art of the audition!
Audition Techniques
Learn the techniques used by professional actors to book roles in your favorite films and TV shows.
The Basics of Acting
Study a variety of fundamental acting skills, such as text analysis, emotional and character preparation, and much more.
On-Camera Fundamentals
Gain an understanding of the technical side of acting hiding beneath your favorite performances – eye lines, working with props, stage directions, etc.
Meet Your Instructor
Jeff Evans-Todd
Your instructor, Jeff Evans-Todd, has over thirteen years experience as a professional actor in the Vancouver film industry. Working on some of the biggest shows on television, like Bates Motel, Turner & Hooch, and Supernatural, among others. He continues to audition, and work in the film industry on a regular basis while living right here in Saskatoon.
Course Overview
Students will explore the process of acting for the on-screen medium in a fun, supportive, and growth oriented environment. By the end of the course, you will have the fundamental knowledge you need to begin your film & television career – right here from Saskatoon.
A Real Step in the Right Direction
On the last week of class you’ll film a scene that will then be sent to Brenda McCormick Saskatchewan’s top casting director, who will watch your tape and offer professional feedback! This is not only an incredible opportunity to be seen by a top casting director, but also a chance to get real world feedback and take active steps towards achieving your dreams!

1. What if I have no experience with auditioning?
No problem at all! This course is designed for complete beginners, and we’ll guide you every step of the way.
2. What should I bring to class?
A water bottle, a notebook, your script (emailed ahead of time), some comfortable clothing, and a willingness to learn and have fun.
3. Will the instructor email me my scenes after class?
Each student will bring their own SD card, and the instructor will record all takes directly to the card. SD cards are available for purchase through Blackbox Academy, please let us know you would like to buy one when you register for the class.
4. Is there an age restriction?
Yes, this class is open to participants aged 17+. Younger students can enrol in our kids & teen classes.
5. What if I miss a class?
We understand, life happens. While each class builds on the previous one, our instructors will work with you to ensure you don’t fall behind.
6. Where is the class held?
The audition class takes place in Saskatoon at Grosvenor Park Church.
